Emergency Response and Natural Resource Damage Assessments

C-K provides emergency response and environmental assessment services to our clients who experience spills. C-K can provide services to track, monitor, and document spills on water and the ground. Our goal is to provide information to our clients so that containment and cleanup can be facilitated and impacts to the environment can be minimized. C-K offers a spill response team to coordinate and implement sampling strategies and to determine the spatial extent of the spill by mapping with Global Positioning Systems (GPS). C-K also offers computerized tracking/modeling on waterbodies which predicts and tracks the travel times for the leading edge, peak concentration, and trailing edge of a spill plume. C-K also offers regulatory documentation/reporting and agency liaison to provide technical documentation of a spill event, response activities, environmental impacts, and mitigation efforts.

C-K Associates has continued to contribute valuable assets towards aiding in recovery from damage to property
and the environment from Hurricane Katrina. Some project examples are listed below.
Water Sampling in New Orleans
Within the first two weeks of September, right after Hurricane Katrina left New Orleans flooded, C-K Associates and LSU began taking the first water samples from the city. Our crew used GPS to mark the location of every sample taken.

Geographical Data Analysis and Reporting for FEMA
C-K Associates Geospatial Technology team is working directly with the FEMA task force headquartered in Baton Rouge. Our task is to generate and analyze the vast amounts of geographical data required to properly assess and report progress during the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.

St. Bernard Parish Risk Assessment
C-K Associates worked with St. Bernard Parish officials to evaluate damage to structures and the environment of the parish. C-K personnel gathered air, sediment, mold, asbestos, and other samples to help assess whether or not residents and business owners could safely visit or return to the parish in the weeks following the hurricane.

Plaquemines Parish Spill Response
C-K Associates responded to a spill in Plaquemines Parish of more than 400,000
gallons of oil from an above ground storage tank as a result of damage
sustained during the hurricane.
C-K personnel collected oil samples with GPS coordinates. The oil samples
will be used to "fingerprint" or identify the source of the spill. C-K
will also be assessing environmental damage to aid in the cleanup effort.
